Prusament
Premium In-House Manufactured Filament with QR-Code Batch Verification
About Prusament
Prusament is the in-house filament brand of Prusa Research, the Czech company behind the legendary Original Prusa i3 series of 3D printers. Unlike most brands that outsource manufacturing, Prusament is produced in Prusa's own factory in Prague, where every step of the production process — from raw material input to final spool winding — is closely monitored and tested.
The defining feature of Prusament is its QR-code verification system. Every spool ships with a scannable QR code linking to that specific batch's production data, including the actual measured diameter along the entire length of the filament. Tolerance is guaranteed at ±0.02 mm (±0.03 for blends), and color consistency between batches is excellent. The technical data sheets publish detailed mechanical properties: PLA flexural strength of 83–99 MPa, tensile modulus of 2.3–2.4 GPa.
The material range includes PLA, PETG, ASA, PC Blend, and a growing lineup of specialty and recycled materials. PETG is made from 100% recycled content and is the material Prusa uses to print parts for its own printers. ASA offers excellent UV resistance for outdoor parts. Prusament commands a price premium (~$28/kg), but the philosophy is simple: if a print fails on Prusament, the cause is the printer or the settings, not the filament.
Key Filament Specifications
| Material | Nozzle Temp | Bed Temp | Tensile (MPa) | HDT (°C) | Key Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PLA | 210 ± 10 °C | 40–60 °C | 52 ± 3 | 55 ± 5 | Flagship material. ±0.02 mm tolerance, QR-code batch verification. Flexural strength 83–99 MPa, tensile modulus 2.3–2.4 GPa. Print speed up to 200 mm/s. Cooling fan 100%. |
| PETG | 250 ± 10 °C | 80 ± 10 °C | 48 ± 6 | 72 ± 5 | 100% recycled PETG. Low thermal expansion, minimal warping even without enclosure. Ductile with healthy flex. Cooling fan 50%. Print speed up to 200 mm/s. Used by Prusa to print printer parts. |
| ASA | 260 ± 10 °C | 110 ± 5 °C | 42 ± 5 | 90 ± 5 | Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate. Excellent UV and weather resistance — ideal for outdoor parts. Enclosure recommended. Cooling fan 30% (0–50%). Glue stick may help bed adhesion on PEI. |
| PC Blend | 270–290 °C | 100–120 °C | 60 ± 8 | 110 ± 10 | Polycarbonate blend for high-temperature functional parts. Enclosure and hardened nozzle required. Dry thoroughly before use. High impact resistance and optical clarity. For advanced users. |
